Flea Control Information

Fleas are small (1/16 to 1/8-inch or 1.5 to 3.3 mm long), agile, usually dark colored (for example, the reddish-brown of the cat flea), wingless insects with tube-like mouth-parts adapted to feeding on the blood of their hosts. A common misconception about fleas is that you need to have pets for an infestation to occur. Unfortunately, you can get fleas even if you don’t own pets. This is because fleas can be introduced to a yard in a variety of ways if other animals like chickens, rabbits, squirrels, rats, ferrets, or mice are present. You can also bring them home by walking through an infested park. Fleas can hitch a ride on shoes and socks. Fleas are notoriously difficult to get rid of because their eggs can hatch up to one year after they’ve been laid. All they need is a nearby source of heat and movement to trigger the hatching process. It is important to treat a home inside and out when dealing with fleas, as well as have all animals in the home treated at the same time to avoid recontamination.

Fleas go through the four life cycle stages of egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The flea life cycle begins when the female lays eggs after feeding. Adult fleas must feed on blood before they can become capable of reproduction. Eggs are laid in batches of up to 20 or so, usually on the host itself, which easily roll onto the ground. As such, areas where the host rests and sleeps become one of the primary habitats of eggs and developing fleas. The eggs take around two days to two weeks to hatch.

90 Day Flea Control / Yearly Flea Service

Once our technician has identified the scope of the infestation, they will customize a plan to eliminate your fleas. We will treat the interior and exterior of your home to control the explosive flea population. Depending on your pest tolerance, we have two types of flea protection services available. A single service with a 90-day warranty or year-round, regularly scheduled flea control. After the initial treatment, we recommend beginning a regular treatment plan to keep fleas out of your yard all year long. If you see fleas between regularly scheduled treatments, we will come back for free to re-treat the area.

Book Lice

Psocids are also called Book Lice. They are very tiny and often confused with fleas when a client sees the hoping in the tub, bathroom sink, window sills, and kitchen sinks. They are 1/25 to 1/13 of an inch in length and are colorless to dark grey. They infest food products, dead insects, and feed on microscopic mold and mildew. Chemical treatments may be ineffective. Instead, correcting moisture issues and removing infested products is usually more effective. They can be brought in with live plants and be quite numerous inside. Adult stage Psocids have wings and can fly.
