Can you stay in your house after fumigation?

When your house is fumigated, toxic pesticides are pumped in to fill the entire house and kill all of the drywood termites and other pests living within. Since fumigation fills your home with gaseous pesticides like sulfuryl fluoride, you will need to vacate your property for the duration of the pest control process. Additionally, you will need to remove all pets and houseplants from your home during fumigation.

It is required by Florida state law that you evacuate your home for the entirety of the fumigation process. Depending on the size of your house and the fumigants being used, the evacuation period may last anywhere from 24 to 72 hours. During this time, you’ll need to arrange to stay with someone you know or in a hotel. Entering your home during the fumigation process for any reason is both illegal and extremely dangerous.

Even after fumigation has concluded, you’ll need to remain out of your home while it is aerated by your St. Petersburg pest control company to remove all of the fumigants. Following aeration, your technicians will conduct an air quality test to make sure that the pesticide gasses are completely gone and the air within your home is safe to breathe again. Assuming the air is clear, you will now be able to return to your house.
