How do I prepare my house for fumigation?

Fumigation is the most surefire way to rid your home of some of the worst pests found in St. Petersburg, such as drywood termites and bed bugs. However, for fumigation to be fully effective and to make sure there are no negative consequences, you’ll need to take a few steps to get your house ready.

The first step is to schedule your termite fumigation services. Set a date with your pest control company in St. Petersburg, and then either book a hotel or arrange to stay with a friend or family member for those nights. During fumigation, you’ll be unable to enter your home for 1-3 days. As a courtesy, you may want to let your neighbors know about the upcoming fumigation so they aren’t alarmed at the sight of your home being tented.

The day before your scheduled fumigation service, you’ll need to remove everything from your home that could be contaminated by the pesticides used for fumigation. All food items and medications will need to be removed from the home or placed in special fumigation bags provided by your exterminator. If you have no way of storing your refrigerated or frozen food off-site, you’ll need to throw it out.

On the day of fumigation, move all pets and houseplants out of your home. Before leaving, unplug all of your electrical devices and open every door and drawer in your home to allow the fumigants to penetrate fully. Then, gather your family and move to wherever you’ll be staying while your house is fumigated.
